Responses to “Ask a Coach” submissions are written by Coaching Staff – career services professionals with extensive experience counseling, advising and coaching college-aged individuals through their career exploration, job search and decision-making. They know that there is no such thing as a simple, “one size fits all” answer to most career questions, so the responses they provide are unique, direct, candid and actionable.

Our Coaches may offer conflicting advice. That’s okay. Life is full of options and contradictions! As a job seeker, it is your responsibility to process the advice you receive (from us and from others) and make decisions that make the most sense for you. Coaches won’t tell you what you should do … they will help you understand your options. What you choose to do is up to you!

Coach Christine Mahoney is the Internship & Career Coordinator at the University of Colorado Boulder’s new college of Media, Communication and Information (formerly the Journalism & Mass Communication program). Christine is a certified Global Career Development Facilitator and member of the National Society of Experiential Education. Prior to finding her calling helping students connect with employers and launch their careers, Christine taught broadcast journalism courses at CU Boulder for nine years. Jessica Johnson is a career service professional with 6 years experience advising undergraduate and graduate students. Currently, she serves as a Career Advisor of Graduate Students and Special Populations at the Universities of Shady Grove in Maryland. Prior to her current role, she was a Career Management Advisor at the Kogod School of Business at American University where she advised undergraduate business students and taught career development classes. In addition, Jessica developed employer relationships and connected them to students as a member of the employer relations team at University of Baltimore. Mitzi Austin

Mitzi Austin | Coach

Coach Mitzi has been in the higher education industry providing student services for two decades. She currently serves as the Regional Career Services and Business Development Director, providing career services to students, graduates while building employer relations. She finds the ability to coach and help students shape their career path to be a truly gratifying role. Over the years, she has spoken to students as young as a 16 years old and as seasoned as an 80+ year old great grandmother (who really resembles Mrs. Santa Claus). Born and raised in Japan, she loves to get involved in anything international. Mitzi has memberships with several professional/community organizations in multiple metropolitan cities which help tremendously with staying connected with the employers.
